Immanuel Mulunga

The NAMCOR Board of Directors is delighted to officially announce the appointment of IMMANUEL MULUNGA as the fifth Managing Director of the national oil company, effective from today 1 October 2015 for a period of five years.

He replaces Obeth Mbuipaha Kandjoze who resigned in March 2015, after his parliamentary nomination by President Hage Geingob and subsequent appointment as Minister of Mines & Energy.

Up until his new appointment, Mr. Mulunga served as Petroleum Commissioner in the Ministry of Mines & Energy (MME), a position he held for well over a decade, from February 2003.

Mr. Mulunga is no stranger to his new employer, having had a stint on the NAMCOR Board of Directors from 2004 to 2008. The 43 year old Stellenbosch University Masters of Business Administration (MBA) graduate also has the

following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Chemistry and Zoology (UNAM)
  • Diploma in Petroleum Policy and Management (PETRAD, Stavanger)

Other positions previously held include:

  • Key Account Manager – Commercial (BP)
  • Petroleum Inspector (MME)
  • Laboratory Technician (UNAM)

Mr. Mulunga joins NAMCOR at the height of so many activities. These include the Kudu Gas to Power Project, the envisaged roll out of retail sites as well as the Government Bulk Fuel Storage facility.

The oil industry has also been challenged with a downturn in the oil price. While these have brought much relieve to the end consumer, they have also caused a general reduction in exploration activities internationally. Namibia is not immune to this setback.

The Board of Directors has full confidence in Mr. Mulunga’s ability to lead NAMCOR to greater heights. His qualifications and experience makes him the ideal candidate for the Managing Director’s position. He brings with him years of experience in the oil industry as well as institutional memory. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish Mr. Mulunga well in his new career.

I at the same time wish to thank Mr. Ludwig Kapingana, for his tireless efforts towards the NAMCOR cause during his tenure as Acting Managing Director, from April 2015 up until yesterday.

I thank you.
